Ichigo-The main character, goes from being a normal every day kid who can see ghosts, to attacked by a hollow. During this battle, when he is about to die, ashiningami he has just met descides to transfer half of her energy into him. Due to his spiritual awareness, the moment her sword touches his soul, he takes virtually all of her power, transforming him into a shinigami. After this, he is given the role of a shinigami( to protect those who are being attacked by hollows, which usually means protecting or fighting against people he already knows.) Over a short period of time, Ichigo has shown that he can do many things that no human should be able to do, such as fight at the level he does, and see spiritual aura in a physical form. He is slowly begining to learn how to usehis spiritual power. Eventually, he masters Bakai in three days, though that wold usually take thousands of years to master.


Rukia-She is the first real Shinigami that Ichigo ever encountered, and to save both Ichigo and herself she transfered her Shinigami powers to him. She currently is still working for soul society, but as Ichigo's Shinigami teacher. She hides herself in her human form from Hollows until her strength returns - all the while coaching Ichigo. She also is constantly getting into wierd situations around her class mates, because she is still trying to adapt and understand many things about the human world.



Orihime- One of Ichigo's classmates who has abig crush on him, but is afraid to act on it. She lost her brother in a car accident many years ago, and he came back as a hollow to eat her soul. Just before he did it, he realized that this would not make her happy and that what he was doing was wrong and so he "cleansed himself" by making himself dissappear. After being in contact with Ichigo's shinigami form, her spiritual power was awakened.





Ishida-A classmate of Ichigo who is also very special. Ishida is a Quincy, a person with the same purpose as a Shinigami; to take down Hollows. Ishida holds a grunge against Shinigami's because they were responsible for his grandfather's death. Later on he challenges Ichigo to a dual that gets quite out of hand. Later on he will help Ichigo to rescue Rukia.







Chad is Ichigo's very big friend, who seems to be incredibly strong. He is able to even hold a steel beam on his back, as well as endure being hit by a car and many other accidents. He has a parakeet that has a goul's soul in it as well, and this parakeet brings about the death of every one of its owners. After coming in contact with Ichigo's Shinigami form, his spiritual powers were awakened and he was able to defeat a hollow.





Renji- lieutenant in the Gotei 13’s 6th Division, serving under Captain Kuchiki Byakuya. Renji is arrogant and cocky, especially towards Ichigo. However, Renji can be just as emotional. And he shows himself to be a very determined fighter and one who would go all out to protect the people important to him. Renji grew upwith Rukia and the rest of their childhood friends. Renji is always extremely worried about Rukia, and always very excited to see her. This hints that Renji is secretly in love with Rukia.



Byakuya Kuchiki- the 28th head of the noble Kuchiki clan, one of the four noble families in Gotei. So,Byakuya acts as an aristocrat. He is always serene and indifferent towards other people. Byakuya claims that life in general isn't supposed to be amusing. In spite of his icy manner, Byakuya cares for and protects those important to him, and also has a firm belief that all law-breakers should be punished. He is popular among the female shinigami. Byakuya wears the standard captain uniform along with a white headpiece called a kenseikan (symbolic of his noble rank) His zanpakto is Senbonzakura.


Urahara Kisuke is the owner of the Urahara Shop, and it is run by Uraharaalong with Ururu Tsumugiya, Jinta Hanakari and Tessai Tsukabishi. Most of the time, Urahara is cheerful and appears to be laid-back, although he can be serious whenever the situation warrants.He also gives the feeling of mystery and elusiveness.Throughout the series, he is a “behind-the-scene” character, coming in only when necessary, and never intervenes directly. The reason why Urahara is so knowledgeable is he was the former captain of the Gotei 13’s 12th Division, and was also creator and head of the Shinigami Research Institute. After being sentenced to exile for creating an untraceable gigai, his positions were taken over by Mayuri Kurotsuchi. Urahara also seem to enjoy fanning himself a lot with his white-colored paper fan.

Yoruichi Shihouin , the former Tenshi Heisou Ban of the Shihouin family and also the formerHead of the Military in Onmitsukidou. She's intelligent, humorous, knows Soul Society inside and out, and has accomplished so much in her life. She certainly doesn't act like a noble, considering her childish, witty self, and she doesn't like being stated as a noble.Other than that, she can also transform herself into a black cat. She is good friends with Urahara Kisuke. Yoruichi is also best known in Soul Society as "Shunshin" or "Goddess of Flash", Yoruichi for her mastery in the art of shunpo or flash step. Even though other shinigami are capable of shunpo since it's a basic shiningami skill, she exceeds the limits of shunpo of most shinigami. She created a unique technique calledflash release. It is still undetermined whether Yoruichi owns a zanpakutou or only uses her hakuda and kidou skills for battle.Even though she has left Soul Society for over a century, Yoruichi was still known as a legend. Even at this time, no one has yet taken her title as "Shunshin" away from her.
Grimmjow looks laid back and irreverent, but this scruffy appearance hides an impulsive, excessively violent personality and a lethally short temper. Grimmjow is blunt, rude, and quite sadistic, revealing an insane grin in battle, like Zaraki. Grimmjow has little respect for authority and says whatever is on his mind, regardless of whether or not it is appropriate. He develops a grudge against Ichigo for wounding him during their first and second fights, and is eager to return the favor. Grimmjow is the sixth Espada in Aizen's army, meaning he is ranked sixth in terms of strength. Grimmjow was the first character to be revealed as an Espada in the series.
